Learn the Philippine Language For Business
The Philippines has many opportunities for a budding business-person. But it is also fraught with danger and many people have literally lost the shirt off their back. One of the most sensible and smartest things you can do if you are contemplating or already have a business is to learn the Philippine language for business.
You will find the major language of the Philippines is Tagalog. It is the most widely spoken language by number and can really be understood by almost all of the population no matter where you travel or do business in the Philippines. English is widely spoken in the cities and particularly in the financial district of the Philippines – Makati City. If you learn the Philippine language for business then you will be able to communicate with people from outside of the city as well. You will be able to communicate directly with suppliers as well as your customers or business partners.
If you are doing business in the Philippines already it will not take you by surprise to learn there is widespread corruption with many of the officials you deal with from day to day. If you learn the Philippine language for business then you will reduce your risk of being ripped off by those officials as they will know you are able to communicate with their superiors.
You will also find that despite many people being able to speak and understand English there are many times that you will not be able to fully explain what you actually want. If you can speak in the local language then you will break down that communication barrier as well. Obviously this is of extreme importance when you are trying to direct your staff or explain to someone exactly what you want and when you want it.
Filipinos are very good at not being entirely honest. They will do anything they can to provide for their families and if telling you a few half truths or helping themselves to some of your produce means mum and dad can eat for another day, then so be it. Learn the Philippine language for business and reduce the risk of being ripped off. You will earn respect for trying to communicate in the local language and people will be less inclined to take advantage of you.
