Tagalog is the national language of the Philippines. If you learn it, you’ll be able to communicate with Filipinos better. After all, people feel comfortable speaking their own native dialect. There are alot of ways to learn tagalog nowadays, one of the easiest is through the Internet. You can also learn to speak tagalog free through your Filipino friends.
Learn to Speak the Philippine Language
The Philippine Language is actually made up of many dialects and the main language spoken by the locals really depends on where you happen to be. In the southern areas of the Philippines the languages vary from Bisaya or Visayan to Cebuano. These languages have been learnt and spoken over many years and have been influenced by the different ruling powers that have occupied the Philippines from time to time.
However if you want to learn to speak the Philippine language there is no need to learn the many different languages. The major language spoken by sheer volume of speakers is Tagalog. Tagalog is spoken particularly in the northern islands like Luzon which contains the capital city of Manila. The other languages also have some similar words to Tagalog which can be understood by the vast majority of Filipinos. So if you want to learn to speak the Philippine language then you should learn Tagalog.
Now you may have heard that English is spoken in the Philippines and whilst this is true, the level of English spoken will vary greatly as you move around. English is taught and spoken in the major cities as well as schools. However there are many Filipinos who have either never been to school or did not attend long enough to learn English. Rich Filipinos will speak English where as the poorer folks will struggle to understand a word you are saying.
If you learn to speak the Philippine language you will instantly become more popular and better received by the people of the Philippines. Communicating in Tagalog shows respect and for people who do not have a lot then the respect you show them will certainly hold you in high regard
If you venture out of the city areas then you will need to learn to speak the Philippine language to survive. Try telling a person who has never been to school that you want to catch the bus to a province in English. Depending on where you are the driver may have never even seen a person who speaks English let alone know the language.
Do yourself a favour and learn at least the basic level of the local language.
