The country is currently lagging behind its Asian neighbors in terms of economic development but it has done one thing that even the Chinese people would not have been able to understand until the Philippines decided to fight for democracy with the use of prayers and people’s unity-hence the term people power: the force that the modern world neglected, the same force that helped topple the Soviet Union, the Berlin Wall, and helped countries like Cuba to fight for democracy through its people, and even East Timor for its new independence.

Anyone who would like to discover the country and its people who seem to be nave and passive yet fierce and vigilant of its freedom should understand what it is to be Filipino and one good way to do it is through learning the national language.
